The Radium Engineering PCV Catch Can Kit for the Cadillac CTS-V improves the LSA crankcase ventilation system: starting in 2004 with the Gen IV LS engines, General Motors replaced the PCV valve with a 2.5mm fixed orifice, presumably to save production costs and eliminate a serviceable part, and a PCV valve serves real purposes in the crankcase: promoting negative pressure, preventing boost pressure, and in the event of a backfire, preventing combustible vapors from igniting in the crankcase. The Radium catch can runs inline between the PCV valve and the intake manifold, with the included bracket replacing the OEM intercooler coolant filler bracket to mount the can. Fluid Lock baffled can, closed loop, emissions and track legal.

The Details

The PCV circuit's flow logic is load-based: when intake manifold pressure is close to or greater than atmospheric, the valve closes and the hose sees no flow, but at idle, cruise, and deceleration the metered vacuum draws crankcase vapor toward the manifold, which is exactly when the accumulated blow-by of the last pull rides along. The can intercepts it, the baffling strips the oil, and the manifold stays clean. Radium's coverage note is explicit, with this kit handling only the PCV side and the CCV kit covering the WOT breather flow, which is why the 20-0564 dual kit combines both for complete protection. Service on the dipstick at 3 to 4 weeks initially.
