Description

The factory Miata filter is a restriction the fuel pump pays for in current and heat.

The Radium Engineering fuel filter kit for the 1989-2005 Mazda MX-5 is an OEM filter replacement that is larger and less restrictive than the factory Mazda unit, so there is less stress on the pump. Lower pre-filter pressure means less current draw and lower fuel temperature, and that in turn permits an increase in fuel flow. Covers both NA and NB generations.

The Details

The factory Mazda filter sits between the fuel pump and the fuel rail, just inside the RH rear tire. This kit replaces it in the same location, and the install is quick with no cutting or drilling, requiring only basic hand tools.

One detail that makes this kit cover both generations: the NA chassis uses barbed fittings and the NB chassis uses SAE quick connects, and both variations are supplied. Two fittings will go unused depending on your car, which is expected rather than a packing error.

If you already own a filter or are building custom plumbing, the 20-1585 mount kit provides just the 2-piece clamp and hardware with no filter or plumbing.
