The Radium Engineering Fuel Cell Vent Kit, 8AN lets the tank breathe correctly: the vent permits air to escape as the fuel cell is filled and permits filtered air to enter as fuel is consumed, avoiding pressurization during normal operation. This 8AN kit is typically used for standard-fill systems with direct fill or remote fill necks, including an air filter, 6 feet (1.8m) of 1/2" ID fuel vent hose, and adapter fittings. It requires an 8AN male vent fitting on the cell, and works with the standard vent fitting included with the Radium FCST.

The Details

Radium's vent routing rules prevent the classic failures and are worth following exactly: from the fuel cell, the hose must first run upward so any captured fuel drains back into the cell; after ascending, the line should briefly route toward the front of the vehicle so slosh cannot escape; vertical loops act as a makeshift expansion chamber letting air out while fuel drops to the loop bottoms; overall vertical height should be at least 12", and for remote fill applications the loops must sit higher than the fill point. Quick-fill dry break systems flow more air than this kit is sized for and should use the high flow 12AN version instead. Sized and routed properly, the vent disappears into the background, which is exactly what a vent should do.
