Radium Engineering Catch Can Kits | 1998-2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata NB (20-1338-FL / 20-1336-FL / 20-1337-FL)
Product details
Description
The NB breathes oil straight back into the intake, and on a boosted car it ends up coating the intercooler.
Radium Engineering Fluid Lock catch can kits for the 1998-2005 Mazda MX-5 draw oil and water condensation out of the crankcase gases before they reach the intake manifold, keeping the intake, throttle body, and intercooler walls clean. Cleaner inlet air effectively raises octane and lowers hydrocarbon emissions, and the closed system keeps oil vapour out of the cabin. The cans mount using OEM holes and sit clear of popular turbo kit conversions. Compatible with both LHD and RHD cars.
Choose Your Kit
- PCV Catch Can Kit (20-1336-FL): the base kit, inline with the PCV valve, retaining factory function. Start here.
- CCV Catch Can Add-On (20-1337-FL): second can on the crankcase vent line. Requires the 20-1336-FL kit, since its bracket mounts to that kit's bracket.
- Dual Catch Can Kit (20-1338-FL): both kits in one box, PCV and CCV together
What You'll Feel
- An intake tract that stays clean instead of glazing with oil film
- On a turbo NB, an intercooler that keeps its efficiency rather than collecting oil
- Fluid Lock protection: the can cannot overfill and dump contaminants back into the intake
- Mounting on OEM holes, clear of common turbo kit plumbing
- A closed system that keeps oil smell out of a small cabin
Features
- Patented Fluid Lock system preventing reservoir overfill
- 7 fluid ounce baffled can with O-ring sealed dipstick
- Large 10AN ORB inlet and outlet ports, 4AN ORB drain port
- 2-step oil separation baffling with integrated condenser
- Anodized aluminum brackets mounting to OEM holes
- SAE quick connect hose ends and fittings, 3/8in PCV rubber hose, spring clamps
- LHD and RHD compatible
The Details
Buy in the right order. The 20-1337-FL is an add-on, not a standalone kit: its bracket bolts to the bracket supplied with the 20-1336-FL, so it cannot be installed on its own. If you want both cans from the start, the 20-1338-FL bundles them and is the simpler purchase. The add-on exists for owners who already fitted the PCV kit and want to expand later.
The two circuits catch different things. The PCV hose sees metered vacuum at idle, steady cruise, and deceleration, drawing crankcase vapour, unspent fuel, and oil sludge into the manifold right after a hard run. The CCV line sits at atmospheric pressure at low load but flows hard out of the crankcase at wide open throttle, which is what coats the intake system. There is no fixed emptying interval; check the dipstick at three to four weeks and set your own schedule, noting PCV cans usually collect more than CCV cans.
Kit Includes
- Baffled Fluid Lock oil catch can, or two cans on the dual kit
- Anodized aluminum mounting bracket(s)
- SAE quick connect hose ends and fittings
- 3/8in PCV rubber hose, spring clamps, and cable zip-ties
- Stainless mounting hardware
Applications
- 1998-2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata NB, LHD and RHD
Important Notes
- NOT compatible with the 1989-1997 MX-5 Miata NA or Eunos Roadster, because the flip-up headlight mechanism occupies the mounting space
- The 20-1337-FL CCV add-on cannot be installed without the 20-1336-FL PCV kit
