Product details
Description
Haltech Nexus R3 Plug and Play ECU Kit for the 2010-2015 Camaro (LS3, L99, LS7)
A complete bolt-in standalone engine management upgrade for the 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro, including SS, 1LE, and Z/28. This kit pairs the Haltech Nexus R3 Vehicle Control Unit with a 5th gen Camaro specific plug and play harness and our pre-configured integration module. The factory instrument cluster, 6L80E automatic transmission, ABS, cruise control, and HVAC keep working exactly as they did from the factory while you gain full standalone tuning control over the engine.
Developed and validated on the 5th gen Zeta platform. The factory dashboard, gear indicator, and all cluster functions are preserved. Sport mode and TAPshift behavior work exactly as they should.
Every kit includes a 1-hour Zoom setup session with our team covering base map loading, NSP software setup, and first-start procedures. You are never left figuring it out alone.

Why this kit exists
Most standalone ECU swaps on a 5th gen Camaro leave you with a running engine and a broken car. The cluster blanks out, the 6L80E automatic drops into limp mode, and fault codes stack up everywhere. The Camaro relies on dozens of communication signals between modules, and they all disappear the moment the factory engine computer is removed.
This kit handles that for you. The integration module ships pre-loaded with everything needed to keep the factory systems happy, so you can focus on tuning the LS instead of chasing electrical gremlins.
Haltech Nexus R3 engine management features
The Nexus R3 is Haltech's mid-range Vehicle Control Unit. It combines a full engine management system, a power distribution module (PDM), a single-channel wideband controller, onboard data logging, and Wi-Fi communications in one sealed IP67 enclosure.

- Driver Information Center (DIC) text displays
- Head-Up Display (HUD) on equipped cars
- Climate control and HVAC, including AC compressor request
- Power steering
- ABS (anti-lock braking)
- Cruise control (factory steering wheel switches read by the Nexus over CAN)
- Power windows, locks, anti-theft, and key recognition
- Radio, Bluetooth, and OnStar where present
- Turn signals, hazards, and exterior lighting
What changes
Traction control is now handled by the Haltech Nexus R3, which is a more capable and tunable system than the factory setup. Instead of fixed factory thresholds, you control per-wheel or per-axle slip targets, ramp rates, and intervention strategy. Traction control behavior can be mapped by gear, vehicle speed, or any logged channel.
A basic Haltech traction control configuration is included in the base map for every kit, so the system is functional from the first start. Further refinement to match your tire size, power level, and intended use is part of your tune.
On L99 automatic cars, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) is disabled as part of the conversion. The engine runs on all eight cylinders at all times.
6L80E automatic transmission support
This is where most aftermarket ECU swaps on an automatic Camaro fall apart. The factory transmission needs specific data from the engine computer to make smooth shift decisions. Without it, the transmission goes to limp mode and shift quality falls off a cliff.
This kit preserves full factory transmission behavior:
- Drive (D): normal automatic shifting on the factory schedule
- Sport (S): aggressive automatic shifting, no driver input required
- Manual (TAPshift-engaged): use the steering wheel TAPshift controls, or the paddles on 2014-2015 cars, for full driver control over gear selection
- Manual mode exits back to Sport-auto exactly as factory
Cluster and select-shift indicators (preserved)
- M-gear digit in the cluster and HUD when TAPshift-engaged (M1 through M6)
- Blocked-shift indication when the transmission refuses a requested shift, such as an upshift while stationary or a downshift at too high a speed
- Gear-shift highlight that briefly emphasizes the new gear after each engagement, just like factory
- Responsive shift feel: rapid taps update the display immediately while the transmission catches up, just like factory
TR6060 manual transmission support
For manual Camaros, the integration is simpler: the Nexus R3 manages the engine, the integration module keeps the factory systems online, and the cluster shows tach, speedo, and warning lights normally. Reverse lockout and clutch switch inputs are wired through the Nexus.
What you can use in your tune
The Nexus R3 has access to chassis data the engine would not normally see, which opens up tuning strategies a basic standalone setup cannot do:
- True wheel-speed traction control: individual wheel speed inputs feeding the Haltech traction control system
- Boost by gear: actual transmission gear feeds your boost target tables directly
- Launch control with brake hold: brake input, wheel speed, and gear all available as triggers
- Gear-specific timing and fuel maps from accurate transmission gear input
- Sport vs Manual differentiation: separate maps for automatic Sport mode and TAPshift-engaged Manual mode
- Steering angle and lateral G inputs for advanced launch and traction strategies
1-hour Zoom setup session included
Standalone ECUs have a learning curve. Rather than leaving you on your own, every kit includes a one-on-one Zoom call with our team to get you up and running quickly. The session typically covers:
- NSP software installation and connecting to your Nexus R3
- Loading the correct base map for your engine and transmission combination
- Verifying sensor inputs (TPS, MAP, temperatures, wideband)
- First-start procedures and idle verification
- Walkthrough of the key tables for further tuning
- Q&A on your specific build
Schedule your session after install, when you are ready to power up the system for the first time.

Installation
Designed as a true plug and play swap. The included harness uses the original 5th gen Camaro engine connectors at the engine bay end. Typical install time is 4 to 6 hours for a competent installer with hand tools.
- Disconnect the battery
- Remove the factory engine computer and unplug its harness
- Mount the Nexus R3 where the USB-C port stays accessible (tuning is performed via USB connection to a laptop)
- Connect the included engine harness to the Nexus R3 and the factory connectors at the engine
- Mount the integration module and route its connection to the diagnostic port
- Reconnect the battery
- Schedule your included 1-hour Zoom session and we will walk you through base map loading and first start
Battery cables
The Nexus R3 connects directly to the battery via the included SurLok connectors. Pre-made battery cables sized and terminated for a clean 5th gen Camaro install are available as an add-on option, recommended for the cleanest install and to save build time.
If you prefer to source or fabricate your own cables, the required lengths depend on where you choose to mount the VCU. We confirm the routing and lengths for your specific install during your included Zoom session. Use appropriately gauged cable for the run length and current capacity. Both cables terminate at the SurLok connectors on the Nexus R3.

Frequently asked questions
Will my factory dash still work with a standalone ECU in a 5th gen Camaro?
Yes. The included integration module keeps the factory cluster, DIC, HUD, warning lights, and gear indicator fully functional after the Nexus R3 install.
Does this kit support the 6L80E automatic transmission?
Yes. Drive, Sport, and TAPshift-engaged Manual modes all work exactly as factory, including blocked-shift indication and the cluster gear display.
Does it fit both the 2010-2013 and 2014-2015 Camaro?
Yes. The kit covers the full 2010-2015 5th generation run, including the 2014-2015 facelift cars.
Do I need a tune after installing the Nexus R3?
Every kit ships with a base map matched to your engine and transmission combination, and your included Zoom session covers loading it and getting the car started. A proper tune for your specific setup is still recommended, and remote tuning is available through Tuned By Shawn.
Is the ZL1 supported?
Not as listed. The 2012-2015 ZL1 with the supercharged LSA has different ECU requirements. Contact us before ordering for a ZL1.
If you have any questions, you are always welcome to contact us. We'll get back to you as soon as possible, within 24 hours on weekdays.
