The Details

PTFE brings two gifts to a clamped joint: chemistry that nothing in a fuel or oil system attacks, and a slippery face that decouples nut rotation from panel torque, so tightening compresses instead of twisting. Under bulkhead nuts on fuel cells, firewalls, and panels, that means full clamping without gouged surfaces or wandering fittings; as a spacer, it shims stacks without introducing a corrosion couple. PTFE does flow under extreme sustained load, so it belongs in clamped-panel service rather than as a substitute crush washer on high-torque plugs. Match the AN size to the bulkhead and the joint gets the mechanical grace the standard intended.
