The Details

Weld bungs live or die on material match: steel to steel, stainless to stainless, aluminum to aluminum, because dissimilar welds crack under thermal cycling. Angle O2 bungs upward of horizontal so condensation drains away from the sensor element, keep them 18 to 36 inches from the ports where practical for wideband accuracy, and run a tap through the threads after welding since weld distortion loves to pinch the last few threads. Weld in stages on thin walls, chase threads after cooling, and pressure-test before the system sees service.
