The Finish Line Factory NPT Male to NPT Female Adapter, 90 Degree is the street elbow that fixes the geometry, CNC machined from 6061 aluminum in matched 1/8" through 1/2" NPT sizes. The Details

Plumbers call this a street elbow: male one end, female the other, same nominal size straight through. In a car it earns its keep around instrumentation, because gauges and senders are rigid objects screwed into ports that were never drilled with visibility or wire routing in mind. Both joints seal as tapered threads, so both get sealant with the lead thread kept clean, and the elbow's female joint should be assembled while you back up the elbow body with a wrench, otherwise tightening the gauge just rotates the elbow in the port. One honest limitation of tapered fittings applies here: the elbow stops rotating where the taper binds, which may not be exactly the direction you wanted. You usually have most of a turn of usable adjustment range within proper engagement to aim it, and thread sealant helps the joint stay sealed across that range. Aluminum keeps the assembly light on plastic-bodied regulators and won't seize into aluminum housings the way steel pipe fittings love to.
