The Details

Hose assembly quality is decided at the cut: a square, unfrayed end seats fully in the socket and flares evenly, while a ragged one fights insertion and hides strands that leak later. Dedicated shears cut braid and liner together in one shearing action instead of sawing, which is what keeps stainless strands from splaying. Technique still matters, so wrap the cut line with tape on braided hose, squeeze through in one continuous motion, and inspect the end before assembly. Match shear size to hose size, since the smaller shears suit -4 through -10 and the larger handle -12 through -20; leverage is the difference between a cut and a crush.
