The Details

Weld bungs live or die on material match: steel to steel, stainless to stainless, aluminum to aluminum, because dissimilar welds crack under thermal cycling. A welded AN bung seals downstream on the dry 37 degree flare, so protect the machined seat during welding, plugging the bung keeps spatter out. Weld in stages on thin walls, chase threads after cooling, and pressure-test before the system sees service.
