An in-tank pump that drains back is a pump you wait on at every single start.

When fuel falls back out of the feed line after shutdown, the pump has to refill before pressure stabilizes, which shows up as longer cranking, a soft first start, and a pressure trace that takes a moment to settle. The DeatschWerks DW810 Check Valve is a one-way valve machined into a 4AN ORB male to female body that installs at the pump outlet and holds the column of fuel where it belongs. It adds almost no stack height inside the hanger and costs about 1.5 percent in flow restriction, which is nothing against 810lph.

The Details

The valve sits between the DW810 outlet and the outlet fitting supplied with the pump: the male ORB end threads into the pump's 4AN ORB port, and the female ORB end takes the barb or flare fitting you were going to run anyway. Check the O-ring is seated before threading, skip the sealant because an ORB joint seals on its O-ring, and keep to the same 11 to 14 ft-lbs the pump's outlet boss is rated for. Orientation matters, since a check valve fitted backwards blocks the feed rather than protecting it. In a twin or triple pump setup, one valve per pump stops the pumps that are still running from pushing fuel back down through the one that is not. Sold individually.
