The Details

The C6 isn't one computer, it's a network. The factory ECM constantly broadcasts data over GM's CAN bus that the instrument cluster, TCM, ABS module, and HVAC controller all depend on to function. Remove the ECM and those modules assume the worst, which is why most standalone swaps on this chassis end with a dead dash and a transmission stuck in limp mode. The CAN Integration Module replicates the messages those factory systems expect, translating between your standalone ECU and the rest of the car in real time. Manual cars get the simpler version of the job, keeping tach, speedo, and warning lights alive. Automatic cars get the full treatment, with transmission behavior preserved down to the select-shift logic. It arrives pre-loaded with the C6 configuration, so there's no CAN programming homework on your end.
