What the target does
When alternator control is active, the ECU adjusts the alternator's output to reach the voltage you enter here. Most setups land between 13.8V and 14.4V.
- Too low and the battery never fully recharges. You'll see slow cranking and a battery that goes flat over time.
- Too high and the battery is overcharged, which damages it and shortens its life.
Where you sit in that range depends mostly on the battery. Check the battery maker's recommended charging voltage, particularly with AGM or lithium batteries, and choose a target inside both their range and the typical window above.
What to check
After setting it, log battery voltage at idle and while driving. It should settle close to the target. If it doesn't, check the alternator control wiring and the base duty table.
