The three groups of connections
| Connection | Uses | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Throttle motor | Two Half Bridge Outputs (HBOs) | Must be HBOs. Any two can be paired, and the motor wires can go either way round |
| Accelerator pedal (APP) | One AVI per pedal sensor track | Pick free analog inputs |
| Throttle position (TPS) | One AVI per throttle sensor track | Pick free analog inputs |
Why the motor must use HBOs
A throttle motor has to be driven both ways: open against the return spring and back toward closed. A half bridge can switch a wire to either 12 V or ground, so a pair of them can reverse the current through the motor. That's why ordinary low-side outputs won't work here.
You don't need to worry about which motor wire goes to which HBO. The ECU works out the motor's direction during the TPS calibration, so run that calibration after wiring and after any change to the motor connections.
Pedal and throttle sensors
Electronic throttles and pedals almost always have two sensor tracks each, so you'll typically need four AVIs in total. The ECU compares each pair to catch a failing sensor, which is the heart of drive by wire safety. Make sure each signal goes to the AVI you assign in the software, and that each sensor gets clean 5 V and sensor ground.
Double-check the pinouts of your throttle body and pedal before you connect them. A 12 V feed on a sensor pin can destroy the sensor. Haltech's Bosch DBW pedal and Bosch electronic throttle bodies are well documented and a safe choice if you're starting fresh.
Once it's wired, work through Drive By Wire setup, and if something isn't right, see how to diagnose DBW issues.
